Biography

Dr. Attila Kadri Şendil, holds a Bachelor of Music from Dokuz Eylul University State Conservatory in clarinet. He also holds a Master of Music degree from Istanbul Technical University/MIAM and Doctor of Musical Art degree in composition from the University of Memphis where he studied composition with Prof. Dr. Karman Ince. He also studied composition with Mehmet Aktuğ, Paul Mefano, Eduardo Flores Abad, Prof. Dr. Pieter Snapper, Reuben De Lautour and Prof. Dr. Hasan Ucarsu.

During his doctoral studies, he received the University of Memphis Smit Composition Award in 2006. He was also awarded the second prize with the work Mekik at Adıyaman University in 2011, the second prize with the work  Zamanın Ruhu: İkiyüzlü at Başkent University in 2011, the first prize with the work Kırık Cam Parçaları Keskindir in 2012 with the participation of Ankara Kızılay Rotary Club and BESOM and, the third prize with the work Klarnet ve Piyano için Kolay Parçalar at 2nd International competition 'Artiste en Herbe' Luxembourg in 2013.

Şendil's Bremen Mızıkacıları (The Town Musicians of Bremen), a children opera in two acts, commissioned by Komishe Oper Berlin had its premier in September 2017 in Berlin.   

Dr. Şendil currently is the Division Head of the composition department and a faculty member at Akdeniz University State Conservatory in Antalya, Turkey.
