He was born in 1977 in Yalova, Türkiye. He began his undergraduate studies in 1994 at Süleyman Demirel University, Eğirdir Faculty of Fisheries, and graduated in 1998 with a degree in Fisheries Engineering. Following his graduation, in 1998 he became a partner and technical manager at Eren Su Ürünleri Tic. Ltd. Şti., a sea bream and sea bass farming company operating in net cages with a capacity of 50 tons/year in the Bodrum region. He worked there between 1998 and 2000, gaining experience in the private sector, and left the company in 2000 through a share transfer.

In 1998, he started his M.Sc. studies in the Department of Aquaculture at the Institute of Science, Süleyman Demirel University. He served as a Research Assistant (50/d position) at the same institute between 1999 and 2001, and then worked as a Specialist in the Department of Aquaculture, Faculty of Fisheries, Akdeniz University, between 2001 and 2018.

He began his Ph.D. studies in 2007 in the Department of Fisheries Engineering at the Institute of Science, Akdeniz University. During this period, he completed a three-month internship in genetics at the University of Birmingham in 2009 within the scope of the Erasmus Internship Mobility program. He conducted the laboratory analyses of his Ph.D. thesis in 2011 at the Hellenic Center for Marine Research (HCMR) on the Island of Crete, Greece, and was awarded the Ph.D. degree in 2012.

During his doctoral studies, he took part in conferences organized by the European Aquaculture Society and was a founding member of the European Aquaculture Society Student Group, where he served as secretary between 2009 and 2011. In this period, he was also involved in various European Union–funded projects as a researcher.

In 2014, he obtained a patent from the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office for two plant-based fish anesthetic formulations that he developed, with the experimental work conducted at the Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands, Spain. With the support of the Regional Development Agency, he established Türkiye’s first high-technology aquaponics model within Akdeniz University. He has received various national and international scholarships and awards. Within the scope of the EU-funded EURASTIP project, he served as a visiting lecturer at Airlangga University (Indonesia), where he taught courses and conducted research.

In 2019, he was awarded the title of Associate Professor by the Inter-university Council of Türkiye. He is currently conducting research in the fields of fish nutrition, selective breeding in aquaculture, marine fish farming, design and project planning of fish farms, aquaculture techniques, genetics and transcriptomics, and aquaponics. He has international journal articles, national and international conference presentations, and serves as a referee for various scientific journals in his field.
