Özet:
This study examines the reasons behind the increasing trend of vertical formats on social media platforms. The objective is to enlighten the industry and understand how future trends may shape by examining user preferences, aesthetic and technological advances, comparing vertical format to horizontal format, while focusing on differentiation between age groups and their habits. In this study, two different methods have been used: the first one is a quantitative method: a survey among 56 different users aged between 18 to 70. The second method is secondary data analysis to evaluate previous studies. In this method, four different studies were reviewed and evaluated, covering the following topics: factors contributing to the rise of vertical screens, user preferences for the vertical format, and a comparison of vertical vs. horizontal formats. In conclusion, everyday smartphone uses leads users to consume more vertical content due to its ease of holding and social media platform compatibility. User expectations are trending toward both horizontal and vertical formats equally, since the horizontal format is very trendy and preferable due to being more aesthetically pleasing and more suitable for series and YouTube consumption. Finally, the horizontal format remains one of the most preferred formats for video watching.
