Özet

It is said that the oracular books known as the Libri Sibyllini, which date from the Ancient Roman Kingdom Period, were brought to Rome by a mysterious woman named Sibylla. Owing to these books, which were believed to predict the future, the people of Rome managed to cope with calamities, disasters and wars. The available data obtained from the works of ancient authors shows that the subject was not scientifically approached from the 6th century BC to the end of the 4th century BC. Until that time, Sibylla was treated as a mysterious seeress and it was not thought that the subject might have a historical background. The purpose of this article is to give historical information on Sibylla and Libri Sibyllini.
