Özet
Acute ankle ligament sprains represent prevalent injuries, particularly prevalent among individuals aged 15–35, often sustained during athletic engagement. Despite their high incidence rate, there exists considerable heterogeneity in diagnostic and treatment methodologies. Approximately 20% of acute ankle sprains may progress to chronic functional or mechanical instability. The primary clinical approach involves the implementation of a functional rehabilitation protocol in the management of acute ankle injuries. Surgical repair is indicated for specific patients actively engaged in high-demand sports activities and those with symptomatic mechanical instability following failed functional treatment. It is crucial to avoid nonanatomic reconstructions due to the associated high incidence of impaired ankle biomechanics. The objective of this chapter is to elucidate the clinical anatomy of the ankle, along with the diagnostic approaches and therapeutic modalities available for managing ankle ligament injuries.
