Abstract

The article examines the history of the construction of the fortification system of the Sulak cordon, the Kumyk Line and their place and role in military-strategic planning in the development of the region. The Kumyk front line began to be built during the years of A.P. Yermolov, as a springboard for the development of territories that were part of the Left flank of the Caucasian cordon line. The Sulak cordon, the main purpose of which was to cover the Zasulak Kumykia, began to be built in the 40s of the 19th century.
