As a continuation of our previously published works, we used the lowest approximation of the cluster variation method that is identical to the mean-field approximation and linearized equations of motions which are obtained by the Onsager reciprocity theorem to study the effect of the off-diagonal Onsager rate coefficient (gamma) on the relaxation times tau(1) and tau(2) near the critical point of the spin-1 Ising system. The temperature variations of the relaxation times have been studied for different values of the kinetic coefficient (gamma) which couples the dipolar and quadrupolar order currents in the system. Below and above the critical temperature (T-C), a maximum of tau(2) is observed according to the values of off-diagonal coefficient (gamma). (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
