CANVAS AS A FREE ONLINE COURSE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM AND USAGE EXAMPLES

Özet

The need for digital teaching materials and environments, which have an important place in the education process, has increased significantly in recent years, especially in distance education. Internet-based courses are one of these environments that allowing us to benefit from the advantages of distance education. These internet-based applications, called course management systems, are now being used in many fields and for many purposes. In addition to distance education, the use of these systems as an aid to the classroom environment and the teaching of the lessons has made these systems indispensable tools. In order for the distance education system to be efficient, there must be a good interaction between the student and the teaching material. One of the prominent creative designs to ensure this interaction and benefit from the possibilities of distance education is the Canvas course management system. Canvas is a set of web-based applications developed for the management, documentation, monitoring, reporting and delivery of distance education educational content or learning and development programs. This study has been prepared to introduce Canvas with its main lines. Due to Canvas's free and user-friendly interface, both teachers and students can easily use this system. Free Tutor accounts provide all standard features to assist teachers in their educational pursuits using both synchronous and asynchronous tools. In the study, subjects such as what Canvas is, how it works, what teachers and students can do with canvas, what features it does, what are its advantages and disadvantages compared to other lesson management systems are discussed.
