The need for digital teaching materials and environments, which have an important
place in the education process, has increased significantly in recent years, especially in distance
education. Internet-based courses are one of these environments that allowing us to benefit from
the advantages of distance education. These internet-based applications, called course
management systems, are now being used in many fields and for many purposes. In addition to
distance education, the use of these systems as an aid to the classroom environment and the
teaching of the lessons has made these systems indispensable tools. In order for the distance
education system to be efficient, there must be a good interaction between the student and the
teaching material. One of the prominent creative designs to ensure this interaction and benefit
from the possibilities of distance education is the Canvas course management system. Canvas
is a set of web-based applications developed for the management, documentation, monitoring,
reporting and delivery of distance education educational content or learning and development
programs. This study has been prepared to introduce Canvas with its main lines. Due to
Canvas's free and user-friendly interface, both teachers and students can easily use this system.
Free Tutor accounts provide all standard features to assist teachers in their educational pursuits
using both synchronous and asynchronous tools. In the study, subjects such as what Canvas is,
how it works, what teachers and students can do with canvas, what features it does, what are its
advantages and disadvantages compared to other lesson management systems are discussed.
