BACKGROUND: Although carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most common entrapment neuropathy in adults, its etiology is not completely known. Chronic inflammation, fibrosis of the transverse carpal ligament (TCL), and altered sensory response contribute to the symptoms.
