A descriptive study was carried out with nursing students at Akdeniz University School of Health in 2011 at a university school in the Mediterranean region in Turkey. A total of 285 student nurses were in this research. Personal information forms developed by the researcher and the Ageism Attitude Scale were used as the data tools. The students mean obtained Ageism Attitude Scale score was 68.27 +/- 6.28. Significant difference was found between ageism attitude scale scores of students and class, gender, selection status of the nursing profession willingly, being satisfied that the parties are applying state of the profession, 65 years and over the life of a family member requesting status of a retirement home and after graduating from the section where the elderly work status request (p<0.05). As result, it was identified that, fourth year students had more positive ideas and views about old age and aging than first year students. It was suggested that the students should composed training and counselling programs related to elderly and ageism from the beginning of nursing education. (C) 2013 The Authors.
