Çalışmada amaç, popüler kültüre entegre olmuş bir simgenin direniş amaçlı kullanılma olasılığının ortaya konulmasıdır. Bu doğrultuda Stuart Hall'un kodlama/kod açımlama
makalesinden yola çıkılmakta ve V for Vendetta filminin tartışmalı bir okumaya tabi tutularak kitlelerce özümsendiği görüşü üzerinde durulmaktadır. Söz konusu film göstergebilimsel olarak analiz edilmekte ve bulgular Roland Barthes’ın kavramsallaştırmalarına uygun olarak
tablolaştırılmaktadır. Kültür endüstrilerince üretilerek popüler kültüre kazandırılan "V" maskeleri, Anonymous gibi hacktivist örgütlerce direniş kültürünü beslemek amaçlı kullanılmaktadır. Ayrıca, kapitalist tahakküme karşı çıkanların bu sembolü, Occupy Wall Street eylemlerinde de yer almaktadır.

The objective of the study is to reveal the possibility of using a symbol, which is popular culture-integrated, for resistance purposes. In this direction, by looking at to the article of Stuart Hall's about coding/decoding and by subjecting V for Vendetta movie to a controversial reading, it is focused on the idea that the symbol is internalized by masses. The film at issue is analyzed semiologically and the findings are tabulated in accordance with Roland Barthes's conceptualisations. The "V" masks, which are produced by the culture industry and gained to popular culture, are used on the purpose of feeding the resistance culture by hacktivist organizations like Anonymous. Besides, those who oppose capitalist domination are also use this symbol in the Occupy Wall Street action.
