The creative “deconstruction” of visual elements representing abstraction in art is possible only when all these elements can be “conceived” in the same spirit of creativity. In this con- text, the formal formations that define the abstract as a form of existence must absolutely coincide with the conceptual formations that describe the understanding of the abstract. However, within this correlative interaction, the content and form relationships of the phe- nomenon of abstraction in art can be genuinely structured. In this context, visual thoughts, or visual formations that are the conceptual equivalent of thoughts, can only be reached through a philosophical perspective in the realm where reality is transcended. Therefore, the values carried by the phenomenon of abstraction in art are related to a conceptual theory that explains its own structure by drawing on philosophy. The epistemology of this concep- tual perception can be constructed by taking as its basis the phenomenological approach, which expresses the understanding of abstraction in philosophy, whereby the conceptualiza- tion of the abstract is integrated with the meaningfulness of phenomena as a metaphysical question of existence. In this article, from the philosophical perspective of the research, the conceptual structure of the ontological theory proposed by art philosophers Roman Ingar- den and Nicolai Hartmann for non-figurative art, based on figurative ontology, is examined in terms of its content and form. In this critical review, the intellectual criteria related to the structure of the theory are analyzed in detail and based on the points of criticism of figurative ontology, the direction in which the “true structure of existence” of non-figurative art should be formed and what should be taken as its basis are expressed as a theoretical method.
