Abstract
This study was carried out to investigate the effect of genotype on some interior egg quality trait profiles of Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica). For this aim, at eight weeks of age female quails were seperated into two groups and the egg characteristics were obtained to 44 week of age monthly. Total thirty Japanese quail from random mated (control, C) and selected (S) for high 4-week body weight over four generations were used. Results have shown that the albumen index (AI) profiles were parallel, coincident and level. Furthermore, the profiles of yolk index (YI) were not parallel, denoting that the different genotypes have not the same effect on yolk index. Haugh unit (HU) profiles were parallel but not coincident or level. AI values were similar for S and C groups through the study. AI values for S group from 8 to 44 weeks of age were 5.96, 5.83, 5.89, 5.97, 5.92, 5.93, 5.94, 5.97, 5.77, respectively. In early stage of egg production, yolk index was lower for both C and S groups. However, it tended to increase after second month of age for S. Average HU values of S and C quails were obtained in the range of 81.49-84.23 and 81.06-83.12, respectively.
