Abstract

The aim of this study is to bring out the factors affecting life satisfaction of the elderly in Turkey. On the whole, life satisfaction takes priority; it is not satisfactory to explanin the physical health or education level with only objective indications and to base them on only these. In addition to objective indications, socio-cultural phenomena and some subjective judgements (symbolic-discoursal practices, value judgements and perceptions) should be taken into consideration as the other factors determining life satisfaction.

In this study, whether 4 main fields including -in particular- physical health, psychological health, environment and social relationships and in addition to these, socio- demographic and economic variables have gained importance as determining indications will be discussed.

Key words: life satisfaction, old age, old, "quality ageing", Turkey.
