The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of “Individualized
Instruction Materials that Objectives were designed according to Total Task and the
Forward Chaining Strategies” in acquiring art skills in students with mental
retardation. A total of 4 mentally retarded students who were from School of Egitim-
Uygulama constituted the subject group of the study. Alternating treatment design
which was one of the single subject designs, was used as a research design. Data were
analized by using graphical analyses. Results of the study indicated that both strategies
were found to help students in acquiring skills’ sub-objectives and found to have
similar effectiveness.
