Comparative evaluation on clinico-pathological findings and treatment in acute and chronic coccidiosis of lambs and kids

Özet
In this study, 25 lambs and kids from seven different flocks consisting of approximately 150-250 animals, were naturally affected with coccidiosis Haemorrhagic enteritis severe anemia and whitish foci with the diameter of 0.3-0.9 mm were seen in intestinal mucosa in acute coccidiosis. Polypous structures in length of 0.5-1.0 cm at the intestinal mucosa were observed in chronic coccidiosis, The erythrocyte number, haematocrit and the haemoglobin value were reduced but leukocyte number increased. Mortality rate is varied between 35-55%. The sick animals were treated with Trimetoprim + Sulfadoxine (Animar Injectable - Roche) for three days. by intramuscular injection. Treatment was found more effective in chronic coccidiosis compared with acute coccidiosis.
