The purpose of this research is to determine whether the use of narrative method in primary school 5th grade mathematics class is effective for students' mathematics achievement and mathematics anxiety. The study is a semi-experimental study with pretest-posttest design. During the course of the application, the mathematics lesson was explained by using the narrative method in the experimental group and the traditional presentation method was used in the control group. The study was carried out with a total of 64 students who attended the 5th grade of a primary school selected by the purpose sampling method in Bornova district of İzmir province. Mathematical achievement test and mathematics anxiety scale were used for data collection. The collected data were scored and analyzed according to the scale previously prepared by the researcher. According to the analysis results; it has been found that the training with the help of the narrative method is more successful than the traditional teaching method in increasing the mathematics success and decreasing mathematical anxiety according to the traditional method.
