Özet

The Ottoman-Russian War of 1768-1774 caused many troubles for the Ottoman State: military, economic, social etc. These troubles were experienced throughout the whole territory, but especially on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus. The island of Cyprus had not been affected in previous Ottoman-Russian wars. The destruction of the main Ottoman navy in Cheshme caused many troubles for the Ottomans leaving most of the Mediterranean islands and all of the coasts open to Russian attack. So, with the war spreading to the Mediterranean, security measures were immediately taken on the island. The war of 1768-1774 affected Cyprus deeply and Cypriots were burdened with new taxes and tasks during the war.
