The goal of the research is to determine the antibacterial and insecticidal activities of lichen Anaptychia cifiaris subsp. ciliaris (L.) Korb. ex A. Massal. extracts (n-hexane and methanol) against some pathogenic bacteria and the mosquito Culiseta longiareolata Macquart larvae (Diptera: Culicidae). The extracts obtained from A. ciliaris subsp. ciliaris possess no antibacterial activity despite the use of higher concentrations (25x10(3) to 300x10(3) ppm). In mosquito larvicidal assays n-hexane extract showed higher activity than methanol extract. In the n-hexane solvent extract, the maximum mortality (97.5%) was recorded at a concentration of 2000 ppm after 120 h exposure. At the same concentration larvicidal activity of methanol extract was 20%. The present findings shows that tested Anaptychia ciliaris extract demonstrated moderate larvicidal effects. We therefore conclude that lichen extracts may be a useful source for the development of insecticidal products.
