Abstract

The evil eye is that; the energy containing the feelings such as extreme jealousy, love and envy affects the living beings through eye. It means the harmful, striking and fatal power which exists more or less in every people and is believed to exist mostly in blue-eyed people and gets out of their looks. People have tried to resist "the evil eye" and to avoid its striking and fatal power since former years. The belief of "the evil eye" is common in our culture and in Turkish Literature, as a folkloric material. This writing will focus on the fact that how the belief of "the evil eye" is paid attention in classical Turkish poetry and how it is chosen by Divan poets as the subject matter of the poem.
