Abstract

Although approximately two-thirds of the Milky Way’s globular clusters are believed to be part of
the bulge and disk, the bulge has received less attention than the halo and disk regions. This study
reports the C, N, and O abundances of the bulge globular cluster NGC 6316 using optical and nearinfrared (NIR, H-band) spectroscopic data of cluster member stars, as CNO abundances are key

to distinguishing multiple stellar populations (1G and 2G). Additionally, we will provide a critical
comparison to test and validate the elemental abundances reported using the APOGEE/Bulge Cluster
APOGEE Survey (CAPOS) H-band NIR datasets. These datasets were processed using the APOGEE
Stellar Parameters and Chemical Abundance Pipeline (ASPCAP) and the Brussels Automatic Code
for Characterizing High-Accuracy Spectra (BACCHUS) for elemental abundances from the APOGEE
H-band spectra of cluster member stars. The [N/Fe] > +0.7 criterion used by the CAPOS team to
separate multiple populations will also be tested and discussed.
