Abstract

In recent years, the incidence of violent behavior towards nurses has been increasing. It is known that the most common perpetrators of violence experienced by emergency nurses are patients and their relatives. In the study, it was aimed to make a bibliometric analysis of violence against nurses by patients and their relatives in the emergency department. Research data were collected by retrospective bibliometric analysis method without year limitation. The number of published articles by years, the most cited articles, the most publishing countries, journals and keywords were examined. As a result of the screening, 977 study data were obtained. As a result of the screening, 971 publications were included in the analysis. It was found that the included publications were made between 1990 and 2023. It was observed that the most publications were made in 2020 and 2022 (n = 51). It was determined that the country that produced the most publications was the United States of America and the  institution was the University of Cincinnati (n=18). It was determined that the most publications were made in the International Journal of Mental Health Nursing (n=43). It was determined that the words "workplace violence, emergency department, violence and nurses" were used most. When the studies in the last thirty three years are evaluated, it can be said that there are few publications on violence experienced by emergency nurses. This can be explained by the fact that the violence applied to nurses by patients and their relatives is less than today.
