Abstract

The aim of this research is to examine the professional maturity levels of the students who have
taken the special ability examination in relation to the examinees' perfermances during pre-post
examination and other variables. In this research which is descriptive, survey model is used. To
evaluate the professional maturity levels 'Professional Maturity Scale' which has been adapted into Turkish by Kuzgun and Bacanll (1996), is used.Subjects of the research are 44 Akdeniz University Physical Education special abilities exam takers. The criterions are tested once a week with the test method. When pre-post special ability test grades compared with the T-test, some meaningful statistical differences are founded among the examinees' coordination (T: -2,67 p:O,Ol1); three step jumping on stand (T:-2,85 p:O,007); endurance (T:-2,664 p:O,Ol1); (p<O,05). Also a meaningful difference found between the professional maturity level (PML) and OYS (Student Placement Examination) (T:-5,394), between PML and OSS (Student Selection Examination) (T:14,416), also between OSS and OYS pure grades (p<O,05). Only % 38,6 of the nominees attending to the research are at the professional maturity level. As a result of the analysis done it is obvious that the attendants of the special ability examination need to improve their profession maturity levels.Statistically no meaningful relation is found between special ability grades and professional maturity level grades(r:O,237 p:O,l22). With this research it is concluded that the nominees are in need of professional instructions taking special abilities into consideration and that professional guidance and counselling services should be more affective, planned and systematic.
