Primary neoplasms of the pleura are rare. Usually, they fall into two main categories: diffuse and localized tumors. Diffuse pleural tumors are associated with mesothelioma and asbestos and have a poor prognosis. These tumors occur more frequently than localized tumors and comprise mesothelial cells. Solitary fibrous tumors of the pleura was originally considered to be originated from the mesothelial layer. It has been reported that SFTP is more commonly caused by visceral pleura than by parietal pleura.
