Tuta absoluta has recently occurred the major insect pest of tomatoes in Turkey. Six different colored sticky traps (black, blue, fluorescent green, red, white and yellow) were tested for their effectiveness in capturing adult T. absoluta in green house-grown tomatoes in Antalya. Trials were carried out in two successive growing seasons (fall winter 2017 and spring 2018). A total of 36 sticky traps (6 per color)/da were used for weekly sampling, and traps were hung vertically at the canopy height (between 40-100 cm from the ground depending on growth stage of the plant), at least 3 m apart from each other. Traps were replaced with fresh ones at weekly intervals. The results showed that black traps captured significantly greater numbers of adult T. absoluta than all other colors in both growing seasons, followed by blue, white and yellow traps. Black traps also attracted comparatively less number of beneficial insects than all other colors in both seasons. The results indicate that black traps are preferable for the monitoring and mass trapping of adult T. absoluta.
