Duygusal zekâ günümüzde anlaşıldığı tanımıyla, insanı tanımlamada eksik kaldığı gibi, aynı zaman da onu bütününden farklı bir yapı içinde açıklamaktadır. Bu çalışma da ünlü nörobiyolog Damasio’nun ikincil duygular tanımından yola çıkarak duygusal zekanın ve rasyonel zekanın ancak Lakoff ve Johnson’nun metafor kavramıyla bedenin bir bütün içerisinde ele alındığında insanı yani bütünsel davranışları açıklanabilir olduğu savunulacaktır.
Böyle duygusal ve rasyonel bir zekâ ayrımının gerçekte bulunmadığını, bilişsel ve duygusal süreçlerin çevre ile etkileşimi içerisinde aynı anda ve aynı süreçte hareket ettiklerini ve günümüzdeki bu konuyla ilgili yapılan çalışmalarda bunun tersini ispatlayacak bilimsel gelişmenin bulunmadığına vurgu yapılacaktır.
EQ, as its current definition demonstrates, is inadequate to describe humanbeings and explains them in a structure that is not wholistic. This study takes famous neurobiologist Damasio’s definition of secondary emotions as its starting point, and discusses the necessity of considering EQ with IQ through Lakoff and Johnson’s concept of metaphor. According to this, body should be considered as a wholistic entity in order to comprehend the whole of human behaviour.
This study focuses on the fact that there is no real difference between IQ and EQ, and that the cognitive and emotional processes evolve at the same time in their interaction with the environment. The studies that are done on the subject of EQ do not show scientific evidence to prove the contrary.
