Objective: In this study we aimed to evaluate the prenatal, natal and postnatal care given to 15-49 year old married women who applied to the health centres in Gaziantep and the factors that can effect these. Material and Method: The population of the district were weighted according to the their urban and rural population, and it was planned to include 500 women in this study. The 23 health centers included in this study were chosen by the simple random sampling method. We applied a questionnaire to all of the 15-49 year old currently married women who applied to the chosen health centers between March and April, 1999. Results: It was determined that 24.1% of the women did not receive any prenatal cate during their last pregnancy and 10.2% of the women gave birth to their last baby without the assistance of a trained health personnel. Approximately half the women (55.8%) did not receive any postnatal care after their last birth. Living in a rural area, the low education level of the women and their husbands, as well as the lack of social insurance negatively effects the usage of these care services (p<0.05). Conclusion: Health centers which are responsible for prenatal, natal and postnatal services must be set up.
