Abstract

As a continuation of the preceding work [1], we investigate the local shapes of the mean-field free energy surface at equilibrium for the spin-1 Blume-Emery-Griffiths model [2-8]. For this aim, we derive the expressions for the mean (H) and Gaussian (K) curvatures. Their temperature and cyrstal field behaviorus near the critical and multicritical points are determined. Moreover, the location of curvature minima (HM  , KM) and maxima (KP) in the phase diagrams including critical and multicritical topology have been analysed. Some of the results fit well with those in the absence of crystal field interactions [1].
