Özet

Although the concept has a positive notion, EMEs differ within themselves as to extent in which the individual countries use their own resources completely and efficiently. The agricultural sector shows inefficiency in acquiring, using, and most significantly distributing the existing resources. The labor force and the land ownership problems unique to the agricultural sector intensify over time and may result in differences in agricultural efficiencies in various parts of the same country. In addition, the agricultural sector is characterized by a narrow product pattern in many EMEs. This chapter analyzes the agricultural developments in EMEs through selected indicators over the period of 2000-2015. The countries may converge to or diverge from each other according to their levels of development. The data was obtained from the World Bank and ILO. The agricultural structures of the EMEs are explained using the index values which were calculated from the secondary data. The indicators are classified under three groups. Primarily, the indicators revealing the agricultural efficiency, and added value structures in EMEs are determined and interpreted. Next, EMEs are evaluated by using indicators regarding food production safety and efficiency structure. Finally, indicators regarding rural life in these economies are discussed.
