The Effect of MgO, CaO, and SrO on the Optical Properties and Radiation Attenuation Behavior of Sb2O3-Li2O-Er2O3 Glasses: A Theoretical Study

Özet

The effect of MgO, CaO, and SrO on the optical properties and radiation attenuation behavior of Sb2O3-Li2O-Er2O3 (SLE) glasses has been theoretically investigated. Glasses including Mg were labeled SLEMg, those including Ca were labeled SLECa and those including Sr were labeled SLESr. The molar refractivity and molar polarizability of SLEx glasses are in the order SLEMg < SLESr < SLECa. The SLESr has slightly higher reflection loss but slightly lower optical transmission than SLEMg and SLECa. The static dielectric constant and optical dielectric constant are slightly higher for SLESr than for SLEMg and SLECa and slightly lower for SLEMg than for SLESr and SLECa. At 10 -MeV energy, SLESr has a slightly higher linear attenuation coefficient and mass attenuation coefficient than SLEMg and SLECa, whereas it has slightly lower half-value layer, tenth-value layer, and mean free path than those of SLEMg and SLECa. The effective atomic number (Zeff) of SLESr is slightly higher, and the Zeff of SLEMg is slightly lower, between 1 and 15 MeV, than those of the other studied glasses. However, the effective electron density (Neff) of SLESr glass is slightly lower, and the Neff of SLEMg is slightly higher, between 5 and 15 MeV, than those of the other studied glasses. The equivalent atomic numbers of SLESr are slightly higher than those of the other glasses, between 2 and 15 MeV. Consequently, SLESr has slightly better radiation attenuation properties.
