This study aims to determine the cultural qualities children’s magazines published during the Ottoman period sought to instill in children. These magazines introduced young readers to various literary works while simultaneously aiming to provide them with a cultural identity through stories, poems, and other genres. By addressing contemporary social issues, they endeavored to create cultural awareness at the intersection of literature and education. To explore how this effort was reflected in Ottoman children’s magazines, publications from that period were analyzed, and it was observed that Çocuk Bahçesi and Çocuk Dünyası represented the typical characteristics of such magazines. Since stories were the most frequently published genre, the study was limited to their analysis. The stories were categorized under eight themes: national values, nature and religion, human traits and relationships, behaviors, education and learning, linguistic aesthetics, miscellaneous topics, and illustrated stories. It was found that the stories aimed to construct a cultural identity within the framework of these themes by addressing various issues. The findings reveal that Çocuk Bahçesi and Çocuk Dünyası supported an enculturation process aimed at raising children as individuals loyal to national values, conscious of nature, educated, capable of proper behavior, and sensitive to language.
