Özet
This study examines the relationship between linguistics and sustainability. Language shapes how societies understand environmental issues, social justice, and economic equality. Linguistics, by analyzing language structure, use, and power relations, contributes directly to sustainable development. The study first addresses environmental sustainability. Language influences environmental awareness and human–nature relations. Indigenous languages preserve extensive ecological knowledge developed over generations. Their loss means the loss of this knowledge, which weakens sustainable environmental practices. The second focus is social sustainability. Linguistic diversity supports social justice and equality. Language rights are part of human rights. Inclusive language policies strengthen participation of minority groups and help transmit cultural heritage across generations. The third section discusses economic sustainability. Language skills affect access to education and employment. Multilingualism offers clear advantages in global labor markets. Multilingual education supports equal opportunities and reduces economic inequality. Finally, the study highlights the role of language policies in achieving sustainable development goals. Protecting linguistic diversity and ensuring language rights are central to sustainable and inclusive development.
