This article aims to use simulation to optimize the technical studies and production plans of a proposed new spinning mill. The output of such a technical study was trialed as an input for ARENA software, before commencing the actual production. The results indicated deviations between the initial simulation scenario output and the planned output. Therefore, a modified technical plan was suggested and re-simulated. The results of the second simulation scenario indicated improvement to the scheduling of stages in terms of a reduction in waiting time in the stages of raw cotton, blowroom, drawing (II), and rotor spinning. Additionally, the simulated production rate may become close to the projected production rate. This study is important when establishing a new spinning mill, in particular if a previous technical experience is not available. It also helps in avoiding production problems that may appear after buying expensive spinning machines, therefore preventing potential bankruptcy.
