Özet

This article presents a newly discovered fragment of a land-lease inscription from Amos, recovered during excavations at a small chapel on the island of Şövalye (ancient Makra) and now housed in the Fethiye Archaeological Museum. Inscribed in Doric Greek on both faces of a limestone stele—reused as building material and transported from Amos as ship ballast—the text shows strong parallels with other known Amian leases from the Rhodian Peraia. It sets out detailed agricultural regulations, lease terms, and the obligations of the lessee. Epigraphic and linguistic features indicate a date between 220 and 200 BCE, consistent with the broader corpus of similar documents. The inscription offers new insights into land-lease practices in Rhodian-controlled territories, particularly with regard to the management of public or sacred lands.
