The application of magnetic sensors in the magnetic sectors illustrates
the advancement of modern technology through the understanding of the basic
principles of magnetism. An even more dramatic transition from an Amplitude
Modulated - Amplitude Modulated Magnetic Sensor (AMR) to a Giant – Giant
Magnetoresistance (GMR) gives a clear picture of how both the application of
fundamental physics and therefore the advancement of industry can provide
technological advancement. The recent development of an Intel -Transverse -
Magnetoresistance (TMR) sensor demonstrates that continuing progress has
been made in the areas of material science, spintronics, and nanotechnology. In
the near future, it can be expected that magnetic sensors will also be used for
the development of smart/smart magnetic sensors that have the capability of
perceiving their environment and interacting/communicating with
complementary magnetic sensors through integrated artificial intelligence. The
framework for this chapter discusses the fundamental concepts of the magnetic
sensor sector, the recent technical advances, and the emerging areas of
opportunity that this rapidly evolving sector has for the development of
smart/smart magnetic sensor systems.
