Of the gram-negative nonfermentative bacteria, Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an important nosocomial pathogen, leading to infections especially in compromised hosts. Since it is resistant to most of the antimicrobial agents, the treatment of pseudomonal infections is usually difficult. In this study, 100 nosocomial isolates of P.aeruginosa were tested for their antimicrobial susceptibilities against imipenem, ceftazidime, ciprofloxacin, gentamicin and amikacin in Akdeniz University Hospital. Isolates were tested with E-test strips to determine their minimal inhibitory concentrations (MICs). As a result, 26% of the isolates were found to be resistant to imipenem, 34% to ceftazidime, 16% to ciprofloxacin, 67% to gentamicin and 12% to amikacin.
