Özet
Despite its declining share in national income and
employment in recent years, the agricultural sector remains crucial to the
Turkish economy. It plays a key role in ensuring food security for the
country's 86 million residents while also contributing to exports and rural
development. However, challenges such as population growth, rapid urbanization,
climate change concerns, rising input costs, and swift technological progress
are underscoring the need for greater digitalization in agriculture. The
concept of smart agriculture has emerged alongside the mechanisation and
automation of agricultural processes, resulting in technological developments
from the past to the present day. Smart agriculture
has become a key sustainability strategy in Türkiye, as in many other
countries. While meaningful strides have been made in integrating technology
within the agri-food sector, there is still considerable progress needed to
fully implement Agriculture 4.0. Embracing Agriculture 4.0 has the potential to
significantly boost sustainable agriculture in Türkiye by improving
productivity, enabling data-driven production planning, and strengthening
international competitiveness.
