Özet

Study of proper names is categorized under Onomastics, a sub-branch of Linguistics. Toponymy studies are the second most popular research area in the field of onomastics, after person names. Toponymic studies have started with ethno-toponymic studies, that explores the places named after kin names, in Turkey. In addition to close association with kin names, toponymic names are also associated with folklore, history, geography, archeology, sociology, anthropology, jeology etc.
