In the present study, PvuII polymorphism in the promoter region CYP19 (cytochrome
P450 aromatase) gene was investigated in some native Turkish cattle breeds. The
study was carried out using PCR-RFLP in 151 animals including Eastern Anatolian
Red, Turkish Grey and Turkish Holstein breeds. While 3 genotypes (AA, AG, GG)
were determined in Turkish Grey, two genotypes (AA and AG) were determined in
all other breeds. The A allele frequency (0.8229-0.9419) was detected at a
considerably higher frequency than the G allele when all breeds were
considered. The highest A allele frequency was determined to be 0.9419 in the
Eastern Anatolian Red breed. All populations were found to be in Hardy-Weinberg
equilibrium for this locus.
