Abstract

In this study, it is examined whether some of demographic characteristics of tourist guides have any effect on their self-esteem, decision making styles and problem solving skills in the process of decision making. The working group of the study consists of 648 participants who are working actively as tourist guides in the provinces of Antalya, Ankara, Muğla and Antalya. However, only 442 surveys that possess the necessary qualifications for the analysis have been included into the study. As a result of the T-test, it was found out that the variables of gender and marital status did not create a significant difference on self-esteem, decision making styles and problem solving skills. Furthermore, the variable of age did not create any difference on self-esteem and problem solving skills. While the variable of age did not create any difference on “Cautious Decision Making Style”, “Abstaining Decision Making Style” and “Panic Decision Making Style” which are sub-dimensions of decision making styles, it created a significant difference on “Dilatory Decision Making Style”. The variable of education did not create any difference on self-esteem and problem solving skills. While the variable of age did not create any difference on “Abstaining Decision Making Style”, “Dilatory Decision Makin Style” and “Panic Decision Making Style” which are sub-dimensions of decision making styles, it created a significant difference on “Cautious Decision Making Style”.
