"Turkish folk song" (turku) is one of the products of anonymous Turkish folk culture and it can be considered as one of the most beautiful expressions of folklore which is the core of the Turkish culture with its local stories, lyrics and melodies. In almost every region of Anatolia and Rumelia, folk songs were composed through true-life events and their stories with their melodies were widely spread. In this circumstance, it can be seen that some of the folk songs belonging different regions show similarities with each other by means of their stories, lyrics or melodies. This phenomenon is called as variant case (version). These types of variations are indication of that these folk songs have an influential melody, story and lyrics within the cultural structure. In this study, the local story, lyrics and melody of the folk song of "Ay Deresi", which was locally composed after a true-life event, were recorded by doing personal interviews with first-hand witnesses of the event and assessment of the case study were presented by means of qualitative research methodology. Additionally, it was focused on revalidation of the similarities and differences between the folk song of "Ay Deresi" and the variant songs of "Devrent (Derbent) Deresini Duman Burudu" and "Devrent Deresi (Dudu)". Evaluations were made on the stories, lyrics and melodies of these three folk songs through comparative analyses. At the result of this study, the folk song of "Ay Deresi", which was considered as the variant of the songs of "Devrent (Derbent) Deresini Duman Burudu" and "Devrent Deresi (Dudu)", was represented in details through its local story, lyrics and melody scopes. As the main scope, it was seen that the common feature of these songs was death and apartness (separation) and they were composed with syllabic meters of eleven (11), twelve (12) and thirteen (13). At the tragic focus of the stories of the "Ay Deresi" and the variant songs of "Devrent (Derbent) Deresini Duman Burudu", it is understood that there were story-based similarities of the territory where the event was experienced and dying people because of the snowy hard winter climate conditions. Additionally, they can be considered as the variant songs by means of their story and melody. In the evaluation of the melody of the song of "Ay Deresi", it can be said that the melodical sequence were Huseyni and Muhayyer modes. The song was composed with the sound intervals of nine, ten and twelve and the rhythm meter was 2/4. In addition to this, the melody and stories of these songs were appeared at the close locations such as Aydin, Denizli and Burdur through cultural interactions. As it was represented in this study, the folk songs (turku) which express the life styles, cultural features and musical aesthetics together with stories and melodies can be seen as the variants which have different stories and lyrics with similar melodies. In this point, different variants of folk songs can be composed by means of field research and future studies can be organised.
