Abstract

Peripheral vascular injuries are life threatening traumas that require emergency intervention and frequently result in the loose of related extremity. The gunshot wounds are responsible for a significant amount of peripheral vascular injuries. A 21-year-old male patient admitted to the emergency department of our hospital following mine explosion is herein presented. The patient had a bone fracture at the proximal part of the left tibia. In physical examination, left lower arterial pulses were absent, and there was no blood flow on Doppler ultrasonography. In the operation injuries of both popliteal artery and vein were observed at the level of the popliteal artery bifurcation. Saphenous vein graft interposition was performed to the popliteal artery, and popliteal vein was repaired with end to end anastomosis. © Gülhane Askeri Tip Akademisi 2008.
