Özet

Nutrition plays a crucial role in determining both health and disease. Despite its significance, it is often one of the most overlooked aspects of maternal, newborn, and child health. Currently, 50 million children under the age of five are underweight, 40 million are overweight, and over 340 million chil-dren suffer from micronutrient deficiencies. Proper nutrition practices could prevent an estimated 19% of deaths among children under five, a figure higher than any other single preventive measure. Therefore, countries need to prioritize basic nutrition practices that support healthy growth and de-velopment in children, and regularly monitor their nutritional status to ensure optimal health and well-being. Malnutrition can have long-lasting effects throughout a person’s life, perpetuating a cycle of health and socioeconomic disadvantages that can impact future generations. Therefore, it is es-sential to develop, maintain, and effectively monitor strategies for healthy nutrition. This will help protect the health of today’s children and future generations. Encouraging breastfeeding and ensur-ing a balanced intake of essential food groups are vital for healthy growth and development, as well as for preventing diseases later in life. Achieving dietary diversity and ensuring adequate energy and nutrient intake are crucial, as no single food can provide all the necessary nutrients. It is recom-mended to have a balanced diet that includes a variety of essential food groups. Dietary supplements, fortified foods, and multivitamin-mineral supplements should only be considered for individuals at special risk; they should not be seen as substitutes for a healthy and balanced diet.
