'Uzun' (Reg. No. CV-14, PI 679963) is a sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) cultivar with a high yield and light brown seeds. It was registered with National Variety Registration and Seed Certification Center in Turkey in 2013 and released by Akdeniz University and the West Mediterranean Agricultural Research Institute. It is highly suitable for main-and secondcrop farming and exhibits moderate tolerance to phyllody phytoplasma, rhizoctonia root rot, Fusarium wilt, and Verticillium wilt. The cultivar was derived from the breeding line 1.10.7.2/1-1, which originated from the local population 1.10.7.2 in Antalya, Turkey. This advanced line was developed by single plant selection and purified in the growing seasons 2004 to 2007 at the West Mediterranean Research Institute research stations. Performance tests in replicated trials were conducted in Antalya and Sanliurfa, Turkey, in 2008 and 2009. Uzun showed higher seed yield and desirable yield traits in these experiments. It was tested by the National Variety Registration and Seed Certification Center in Antalya, Sanliurfa, Manisa, and Izmir in 2011 and 2012. It had a height of 172.6 cm, which was taller than controls in all four locations. Uzun had the highest seed yield, with values of 1263 and 2189 kg ha(-1) in Manisa and Izmir, respectively. The mean data from all the four locations collected over a period of 2 yr indicated that Uzun had significantly higher seed yield.
