Özet

Teacher training task was considered as a matter of higher education and assigned to universities by Higher Education Law No 2547 which was effectuated in 1982 (Akyüz, 2006). All teacher training programs in higher education institutions were rearranged as 4-year license programs in 1989. In order to meet the rising needs of teachers, beginning from 1997, teacher training programs distinct from bachelor’s degree programs were created in addition to the standard teacher training programs of the higher education institutions. To what extent those students who attend to aforementioned programs are ready to teaching by means of those programs called “Pedagogical Formation Education Certificate Programs” is a hotly debated topic (Çocuk, Yokuş, & Tanrıseven, 2015; Eraslan, & Çakıcı, 2011; Kızılçaoğlu, 2006). What elevates the importance of the issue is the fact that those programs in question paves the way of being a teacher open to anyone who wants to be (Azar, 2011). Faculty employed for those programs also view the lack of personality-related and psychological testing as a serious problem (Köse, 2017). Throughout the process of evaluation, selection, and training of the students willing to benefit from the certificate programs; personal characteristics of the individual is crucial for the competency and quality of the future teacher, for his or her professional success, and for the quality of the education service in the general sense (Süral, & Sarıtaş, 2015). Other psychological factors such as anxiety, stress, depression, and coping competence in addition to personality itself provides vital information about the individual in the evaluation of personal characteristics. In the present study; it was aimed to evaluate the psychological status of students attending to those certificate programs by investigating the relationship between personality and trait anxiety, perceived stress, depression, coping skill, and humor style.
