Abstract: Purpose: As a direct factor in the success of a school, information and communication technologies require effective planning and use. School principals whose primary role is
to guide teaching-learning processes are expected to be knowledgeable and efficient users of
educational technology. This research aims to determine the use of information technology
in the management process by school administrators.
Method: It is a descriptive research using single and relational survey model. The study was
conducted with 179 school administrators and 508 teachers in public general and vocational
high schools within the boundaries of Antalya Central District. Views of school administrators
and teachers were evaluated to determine whether administrators’ technology usage in
management processes has changed according to task, gender, school type, education, and
duration of work experience variables. For the analyses of the data, frequencies, means, independent sample t-test and ANOVA was used.
Findings: Views regarding school administrators’ use of ICT in the management significantly differentiated between teachers and administrators. School administrators viewed
their use of ICT higher than the teachers in all dimensions. Administrators’ duration of
work experience and the type of school where teachers work were found to be important
determinants of differentiated views.
Implications for Research and Practice: To provide a basis for comparison, studies with
administrators at different type of schools on use of ICT in management processes need to
be conducted. Future studies also could focus on how ICT usage can be increased at general
high schools.
