Özet
Cataract surgery is commonly performed under topical anesthesia, leaving patients conscious and potentially increasing anxiety and pain. This randomized, controlled, single-blind trial evaluated the effects of music and stress ball interventions on perioperative anxiety and pain in 240 patients undergoing cataract surgery. Participants were randomly assigned to a music, stress ball, or control group. State anxiety was assessed preoperatively, immediately after surgery, and approximately 10 minutes after transfer to the ward, while pain was assessed at the latter two time points. Patients in the intervention groups received music or used a stress ball for 15 minutes during surgery. The music group had significantly lower postoperative pain scores than the control group and significantly lower anxiety levels than both the stress ball and control groups (p<0.001). Although both interventions reduced anxiety and pain, music was more effective. These simple, low-cost, and non-pharmacological interventions may be used by surgical nurses to improve patient comfort and perioperative care.
