The purpose of the study is to analyze academic self esteem levels of primary school children whose families applied to the hospital with different complaints according to certain demographic variants. Furthermore, in the study, an answer for the question of whether there is a relation between stress and level of dealing with stress and academic self esteem of students was looked for. 241 primary school children who are between ages 8-13 and applied to two public hospitals in Ankara region constitute the sample of the research. 3 different scales which are stress level scale, academic self esteem scale and demographic scale were used in the research. According to results of the research, it was found out that academic self esteem levels of students differ according to level of education of their parents, economic condition of their families and the number of the years in which they received education. Other findings show the existence of a reverse and meaningful relation between academic self esteems and stress levels of the students. (C) 2010 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
