Abstract

The east and west coastal zones of Antalya City show a rapid development in population and urbanization in the recent years. This trend has major negative effects on the environment. One of the urgent problems is the solid waste management along the coastal zone. Transport and final disposal of solid waste is becoming a serious problem especially in the summer months. The majority of the municipalities along the coastal zone are little towns and villages which have high summer population. They are technically not in the situation to develop and carryout solid waste management strategies. In this work the current situation, solid waste production, existing facilities and projection for the future are discussed.
