Özet

A new species, Alona mediterranea is described(4)) and illustrated based on specimens from the western part of Mediterranean Anatolia (Turkey). The new species belongs to the verrucosa species-group of the genus Alona by the presence two semi-circles of lateral head pores. The diagnosis is based on 25 characters that are either newly described, or have been widely used in descriptions/diagnoses of the species group in previous studies, The characters presented also allow to discuss the position of the verrucosa-group and to describe affinities of the new species with its congeners outside the verrucosa-group. Alona mediterranea n. sp. is most similar to Alona alonopsiformis, and next also to Alona verrucosa.
